"Pizzagate" refers to a debunked conspiracy theory that emerged during the 2016 United States presidential election. The conspiracy falsely claimed that high-profile individuals, particularly those associated with the Democratic Party, were involved in a child sex-trafficking ring operating out of the basement of a Washington, D.C. pizzeria called Comet Ping Pong. The conspiracy theory originated on internet forums and social media platforms, particularly websites like 4chan and Reddit. Supposed false claims and unfounded allegations were spread by anonymous users, gaining traction among some conspiracy theorists. The conspiracy theory alleged that the emails leaked from Hillary Clinton's campaign manager John Podesta's account, released by WikiLeaks, contained coded messages that implicated Democratic Party members in a child sex-trafficking ring. No credible evidence supported these claims, and the allegations were widely discredited. Comet Ping Pong, a family-friendly pizzeria, became the focal point of the conspiracy theory, which led to harassment and threats against the restaurant and its employees.  In December 2016, a man walked into Comet Ping Pong armed with a rifle, firing shots but causing no injuries. Multiple investigations, including those by mainstream media outlets and law enforcement agencies, found no evidence to support the Pizzagate conspiracy theory. What if the conspiracy theories about Pizzagate weren’t baseless and out of touch with reality? Check out the Pizzagate video for additional information.
