The assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, or RFK, on June 5th, 1968, at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, shocked the nation. Officially, Sirhan Sirhan was convicted as the lone gunman. Now, where have we heard that before? However, numerous conspiracy theories have emerged, suggesting alternative perpetrators and motives that will be covered in this latest blog.
The official narrative we’ve been spoon fed over the last five and a half decades is as follows. Robert F. Kennedy, U.S. Senator and former Attorney General, was shot shortly after midnight in the kitchen pantry of the Ambassador Hotel. He succumbed to his injuries the following day. Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian immigrant, was arrested at the scene and later convicted of first-degree murder. Sirhan confessed to the crime but claimed he had no recollection of the events. No recollection of the events?
The tumultuous 1960s were marked by the assassinations of several key figures, including President John F. Kennedy, Malcom X, and Martin Luther King Jr., leading to widespread distrust of official narratives. Conflicting testimonies from witnesses and perceived inconsistencies in the investigation process fueled skepticism from the public. Sirhan Sirhan’s claims of memory loss and theories about mind control have intrigued both independent researchers and conspiracy theorists.
A prevalent RFK assassination conspiracy theory was that there was more than one shooter involved in the assassination, as suggested by the number of shots fired and the trajectory of the bullets. Acoustic evidence, witness testimonies reporting more shots fired than Sirhan’s gun could hold, and ballistic inconsistencies. While the official investigation concluded that Sirhan acted alone, doubts remain due to conflicting forensic evidence. Some researchers strongly argue that the bullets’ trajectories suggest another shooter from behind RFK, where Sirhan was not positioned. Debunkers typically argue that not everything is a conspiracy theory or that people just love conspiracy theories so much that they start fabricating lies. The last thing people want to do is distrust their government officials, myself included, but if given a valid reason to, then there’s no turning back; people will go with their gut, which is almost never incorrect.
Another RFK assassination conspiracy theory is that the CIA orchestrated it due to RFK’s political positions and his threat to powerful interests. Many people also believe that he was taken out since he has similar political positions to his late brother, President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated just less than five years prior. RFK’s stance against the CIA’s operations, declassified documents showing surveillance of Kennedy, and alleged connections between CIA operatives and the case prove to conspiracy theorists that intelligence services were complicit and directly tied to the assassination. Skeptics concluded that direct evidence linking the CIA to the assassination is speculative. While the CIA had motives to target RFK, concrete proof of their involvement has not emerged, unfortunately.
The convicted assassin Sirhan Sirhan claims that he had been hypnotized or otherwise mentally manipulated to carry out the assassination. The CIA’s Project Monarch or MK Ultra, essentially their mind control program, was still active during that time before it was officially discontinued in 1973, even though many conspiracy theorists believe that they never stopped exploiting it. Sirhan Sirhan’s claims of memory loss, his behavior at the scene, and experts’ suggestions that he might have been a puppet or a “Manchurian Candidate.” In an attempt to disprove the theories, Psychological assessments have produced mixed results. Some experts support the theory of hypnotic manipulation, while others attribute Sirhan’s claims to his psychological state and stress. No definitive evidence of mind control has been established, that we know of anyway. We all know how easy direct evidence can be controlled and concealed from the public.
The last working conspiracy is tied to political and organized crime connections, and figures within these organizations had RFK killed to prevent him from gaining power and pursuing his agenda that was strongly opposed. RFK’s anti-corruption efforts, enemies made during his tenure as Attorney General, and alleged Mafia connections were sufficient for conspiracy theorists to believe this alternative explanation. However, official investigations have explored these connections, but no conclusive evidence has been found linking organized crime to the assassination. The theory remains plausible but unproven.
Sirhan Sirhan’s parole hearings have reignited interest in the case, with some arguing for his release due to doubts about his guilt. Renewed media interest has led to the reexamining of the evidence and presenting alternative viewpoints on the assassination. The assassination of Robert F. Kennedy remains a topic of debate and investigation to this very day. People do love a good mystery and stirring up controversy, but others just want to get to the truth and root of the issue. It’s the only way justice can prevail in this country, by putting a stop to those criminal elements directly involved in these assassinations and restoring a government that our forefathers envisioned for the future. Not everything is a conspiracy theory, but when you have a government filled with corruption and malignant individuals, is it really that far-fetched to question the official narrative, or is free independent thinking and speech truly dead in America? Please share your thoughts in the comment section. Be well.
