Welcome to Part 8 of this series about the latest docuseries. This episode was shorter in run time and was titled “Room 158.” Yolanda said during her police standoff that day that Abraham, Selena’s father, made her do it. What could she have meant by that? Most will say that Abraham had nothing to do with Selena’s death, but as we do a deep dive into the case, covering all of the known evidence, it’s safe to conclude that he had some form of involvement, either intentionally or unintentionally, for reasons that will be discussed in future blogs, where I can be less vague. To this day, many still believe Yolanda Saldivar acted alone as the lone gunman, but others have started to question the premise of Selena’s death and have come up with their own alternative theories. We here at The Maverick Files aren’t here to convince anyone of anything. We simply show you the full picture and anomalous evidence to allow you to make your own decision as to what you should or shouldn’t believe.
At the start of 1995, Selena was an upcoming Anglo-American crossover artist, originating in the Tejano Latin market. Her death happened just as she was about to overlap and complete the album she always wanted to do, the English album that she had been promised by her record label, EMI Latin. The initial deal, dating back to the late 1980s, was to make her a superstar, a legend in the Tejano world as that genre was dwindling, until Selena revived it and won many awards for doing so. However, music was not the only thing Selena was interested in. She had a passion for the fashion and fragrance industry.
Dating back to 1993, Selena wanted to do things outside of her family hence why she started her own business, “Selena Etc.,” a boutique and beauty salon. The first location in Corpus Christi opened on January 27th, 1994, and the second location opened in October of that same year. Selena seemed to be on a roll, but based on what we have heard in this latest docuseries, it’s safe to assume that Selena was struggling financially to keep these businesses buoyant. Abraham didn’t like that her business was taking time away from her music career. Now, why would that be? If he really only cared about his kids being successful, like he claimed, then why wouldn’t he support her in doing her thing like any loving father would do?
Instead, Abraham did everything he could to dissuade Selena and those closest to her from talking her out of starting this business. Is that because he was afraid of being booted from the money train that he helped create? Absolutely. All the earmarks of a man primarily focused on money are present here. Abraham was the manager of the Selena Y Los Dinos band, so that meant he was the one collecting and allocating the money that was coming in. Even after Selena’s death, he quickly named himself administrator of Selena’s estate and raked in millions from all of the content that came out posthumously, including a biopic film about her life, in 1997.
In early 1995, Selena and Yolanda were expanding the Selena Etc. business to Monterrey, Mexico. Tina, Yolanda’s niece, shows a set of plane tickets for Continental Airlines dated March 17th, 1995, for both Selena and Yolanda traveling to Monterrey, Mexico, together. Tina and the rest of the Saldivar family see this as proof that their friendship was still stable if they were ok to travel together. Not so fast. I’m not disagreeing with Tina, but this isn’t enough to show that there wasn’t friction in their supposed dying friendship. Why? Well, you have Yolanda and the Saldivar family, who say that Selena didn’t want Yolanda to quit because she had no one else to help her manage and expand her business to Mexico. Then you have Selena’s family say that Selena was just egging Yolanda on, just so that she could reacquire the missing paperwork. Selena had to have realized that there were more efficient ways to retrieve her paperwork for tax filing. I also refuse to believe that she just put herself through this ordeal just to prove a point and expose Yolanda as a thief. It just registers as bullshit to me.
Selena continuing to play these senseless mind games with Yolanda was just satirical. She could’ve very well have called the police and obtained the records from the bank. It’s highly flagrant that something else was going on here, and Selena’s family either doesn’t know about it or has been trying to cover it up for decades. You don’t meet someone in several different motel rooms just to talk about business records and missing money. Why did Yolanda seem to be on the run and couldn’t go home, so that she had to stay in all of these different motel rooms, using Selena’s corporate credit card to pay for them? What if Yolanda was telling the truth and the meetings were about something other than business records? Everyone just assumes she’s a pathological liar because they hate her for murdering Selena, which is a legit and fair reason, but emotions running high can also blind people from the truth.
